Richard Cox, Australian Violin, 2018

This contemporary Australian violin by Richard Cox of Melbourne, 2018, was originally inspired by an Italian instrument by Leandro Bisiach. It loosely follows the Stradivarian style in construction and sports a light amber coloured varnish which has been laid over a light gold ground and applied in a shaded pattern.

Richard Cox was born in Adelaide and spent his formative years in Darwin. He completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at N.T. University (now Charles Darwin University). He began violin making with Dante Roccisano and then moved to Melbourne to work with Brenton Fyfield at The Violineri. Later, in 2004, joining the restoration team at Alex Grant Violins where he currently works.

Occasionally, an instrument comes along that performs well above its price range and this is one such violin, it should definitely be on the ‘must try’ list. It is fitted up to our master standard with Evah Pirazzi strings. A violin suited to the advancing or advanced student, or young professional player.
